When you first think about Thanksgiving, you think about how the pilgrims and the Native Americans had a feast together. But there’s a lot about that story that most people don’t even know.
The first truth that is widely unknown is the fact that Native Americans were not invited to the first Thanksgiving. The real truth is that native Americans came to scout on the pilgrims. For the first Thanksgiving the Pilgrims were making a ton of noise during their hunting and shooting matches. The Wampanoag Indians living in close proximity got a little bit suspicious of the noise and went to investigate. So that’s how that myth started.
The second truth that is widely unknown is the food at the first Thanksgiving. When most people think of Thanksgiving, the food that comes to mind is turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. But the pilgrims didn’t have any of this yummy food. There is one record of the first Thanksgiving that survives to this day. It is a letter made by a man named Edward Winslow. It doesn’t mention turkey, mashed potatoes, or pumpkin pie.
The third truth that is widely unknown is the activities that took place at the first Thanksgiving. Today most people watch football on Thanksgiving. But football wasn’t invented until 1869, so the pilgrims did other things. Things that the pilgrims may have done are running, shooting targets, wrestling, and exchanging stories.
Now that you have the truth about Thanksgiving you can help others also learn the truth. It doesn’t matter what we eat or what we do for Thanksgiving, there is one thing that is the most important when it comes to thanksgiving
Last but not the least, Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks to God and showing our gratitude towards Him. First Thessalonians 5:18 says: “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” So I encourage you to be grateful and give thanks to God in spite of the challenges you may face because God loves you and He cares for you.
